Gratitude and Determination

Thank you for continuing to put your trust in me to represent the Addison District in the Vermont Senate. It was a difficult Election Day for Democrats nationally and in Vermont, so I am especially honored that voters once again chose me as their senator. I will continue to show up, work hard, listen intently, and communicate regularly with you, just as I have done for the past six years.

Voters were clear that they need elected leaders in Vermont to work together on solutions to reform our school funding system and lower property taxes. We must also work to lower the cost of healthcare. I am committed to collaborating with everyone and considering workable proposals from other legislators, school officials, and the governor. There will be difficult decisions and compromises for everyone, and I am ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work.

Congratulations to Steve Heffernan who will join me in representing the Addison District in the Senate. Thank you to Senator Chris Bray for his many years of dedicated service to our district. Thank you also to my dear friend, Representative Diane Lanpher of Vergennes, who also will not be returning to the Legislature. Diane has been a role model and mentor to me during my time in the Senate and a remarkable public servant for our state. She will be very missed.

Finally, I am heartbroken by the results in the presidential election. Vermont voted for Kamala Harris in large numbers and many people logged long hours volunteering for her campaign. I know many of my constituents are distressed and worried about what these election results could mean for our democracy, our freedoms, and our rights. Know that I will continue to fight like hell and I will have your back.

While this election was difficult, rest up and take care of yourself. As Kamala Harris said in her concession speech, “Sometimes the fight takes awhile. That doesn’t mean we won’t win. Don’t ever give up. Don’t ever stop trying to make the world a better place.”  I am here for that fight. I will do the work. I hope you will join me.

Thank you for your support and your trust. Be well.
