Thank you to everyone who voted in last week’s primary election. I am honored to continue to have strong support across the Addison District. The real contest, however, is in November, when Hannah Sessions and I will have direct competition from well-funded Republicans supported by right-wing organizations outside Vermont. So we have a lot of hard work ahead of us. Read on for updates about the campaign, a few policy issues, and local happenings, including a federal ICE raid in our community.
ICE Raid in Cornwall. Last week, there was a federal ICE raid at a private home in Cornwall, a reminder that Trump’s brutal Republican policies are directly impacting people living and working in our community. ICE agents arrived in unmarked vehicles at a home where a crew of workers was replacing the roof. Agents took two workers without providing a warrant, while other workers fled into the woods. These types of repeated ICE raids throughout Vermont and the United States are a human rights issue, a public safety issue, and an economic issue. You can read my full statement on the ICE raid, as well as an Addison Independent article about the incident. In case it’s helpful, please also note & share the “En Espaรฑol” page on my website; if needed, I can access interpretation assistance for Spanish-speaking constituents who would like to talk with me.
Policy Updates. I continue to work on summaries of bills passed during the 2026 legislative session. You can now read my overview of Natural Resources & Agriculture bills, including Act 152, which repealed portions of 2024 Act 181, the legislation which sought to modernize Act 250, Vermont’s land use planning and regulation law. The summary also includes information on H.727, the data center regulation bill that Phil Scott vetoed. For more information on H.727, read this excellent Addison Independent article outlining bills related to AI regulation. Finally, read another great article in the Addison Independent about the proposed constitutional amendment that you’ll get to vote on in November โ Proposal 4, commonly known as the Vermont Equal Rights Amendment. I’ll share more policy updates and information about Prop 4 in the coming weeks.
Help Our Campaign! For the next month, the VT Democratic Party will be hosting virtual phone banks (which you can participate in from anywhere) Mondays and Wednesdays, 4:00-6:00pm, to talk with voters for me and Hannah, as well as Democratic House candidates throughout Addison County. If you have time to make some calls, please sign up for a phone banking shift. We’re also continuing to canvass neighborhoods throughout the Addison District, so let me know if you’d like to help us knock on doors in your town. Plus, if you have a visible location for a Ruth yard sign, please let me know and we’ll get you one. We are putting signs back out in early September. Finally, financial contributions are always welcome, as the other candidates have all raised significantly more money than I have.
