Here’s how to help the campaign

This summer’s Primary Election is coming up on Tuesday, August 11 and there are lots of ways you can help make sure we are successful, both in the primary and the ever-important General Election in November. Here are ways you can help:

1) Make a financial contribution to the campaign. I wouldn’t ask if it wasn’t necessary. Especially because I know many of my constituents are struggling to make ends meet, I only raise the money I need, and most of it from small dollar donors within my senate district. Campaigns are expensive, even for incumbents, with the cost of mailers, signs, ads, tech, and supplies all going up. If you haven’t yet given, or could give a bit more, please consider a contribution. Mail a check to PO Box 343, East Middlebury, VT 05740 or donate online.

2) Volunteer to knock on doors. Our mighty team of interns & volunteers has been knocking on doors since early June. It’s fun, and the best way to reach voters to get them out to vote for us. Join me, Hannah Sessions, and other Addison County Democrats to canvass your town! Reply to this email and I’ll add you to our list, or sign up to volunteer for a specific day.

3) Write a letter of support. Letters to the editor are a great way to let others know why you support me. Did I sponsor or vote for a bill you like? Help you solve a problem or access a government service? Show up for your meeting or event? Write a letter or support for your organization? Or write to you about important information? Whatever it is, write a letter to the Addison Independent and post it to your local Front Porch Forum, about why you support my re-election to the VT Senate (and Hannah’s election too!). Here’s a good example, or reply to this email and I can send you a template.

4) Host a yard sign. If you live in a highly visible locale, displaying a yard sign is a good way to show your support for the campaign. If you have one of my signs from past years, now is the time to put it out! We’re displaying them now through the primary on August 11 and then September 5 through Election Day on November 3. Let me know if you want a Ruth and/or a Hannah sign and we’ll deliver them!

5) Make a plan to vote. The most important thing you can do is make a plan to vote! The Vermont Primary Election, to chose each party’s candidates for the general election, is on Tuesday, August 11. Early voting has already begun, so if you’ll be out of town, you can request a mail ballot or go to your town clerk’s office to vote early. To register to vote, check the status of your ballot, and get a ton of information about voting and the election process, go to the Vermont Voter Portal. It’s a fantastic resource about all things voting in Vermont! Make sure you’re registered and your address is correct so you’ll receive a ballot by mail for the general election — Election Day is Tuesday, November 3!
